Well guys, our sids monitor went off this weekend, and it was no false alarm!
James is fine, thanks to the monitor – but the event could very well have had a
very sad ending.

SIDS facts, tips and links
S.I.D.S. Is: The sudden and unexpected death of an infant under 1 year of age, also known as Crib death or Cot death, which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation.
Since 1991 world health organizations and national S.I.D.S. groups "attacked" the issue of Sudden Infant Death or Crib Death, two main factors have reduced the number of SIDS occurrences world-wide, in some countries up to 70% reduction in statistics:
1) The practical campaign entitled "BACK TO SLEEP" or "Reduce the Risk" encouraging specific safety precautions, mostly laying baby to sleep on his back always, to keep a clear airway, and other precautions.
2) From the medical aspect, many causes of death have been identified, such as cardiac malfunction etc., Infants dying of these "recognized" causes have been removed from the SIDS statistics. Additionally, not all groups enable investigation of infant deaths, thereby if these deaths are registered statistically it is as "other" since SIDS cannot be established.
HOWEVER, according to year 2001 statistics in the U.K.:
SIDS is still the leading cause of death in babies between 1-12 months old
(including road accidents and household accidents)! !
SEVEN BABIES PER WEEK DIE OF SIDS IN THE U.K. ALONE! Total of 5.3 per 10,000 births!
SAFE SLEEPING FOR YOUR BABY -
International recommendations to safeguard your baby's sleeping time include:
- Always place baby to sleep on his/her back
- Avoid overheating the room and overheating of baby with extra clothes or blankets
- Safety in crib/cot - mattress should be firm, "feet to foot" position recommended
- Keep your baby close, but not in your bed during sleep.
- Do not smoke around the baby.
- Do not allow pets to sleep in baby's bed.

Please note:
- We do not claim that Babysense or any other baby monitor can prevent SIDS.
- Babysense does not replace parent or caretakers. It is an
attention-calling device, a parent’s aid. It cannot solve all problems, it
cannot actively take action. It can only call our attention if it registers a
problem.
- No monitor or device cancels or calls you to ignore safety guidelines for your
baby, such as: Sleeping on his back, never over-heating his room, never smoking
around him, firm bedding material (care with blankets and suffocating hazards).
